Our Lady of the Rockies

Dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, this 90-foot tall statue overlooks Butte, Montana from the Continental Divide, about 3,500-feet below. It is the fourth largest statue in the United States.

It was engineered by Laurien Eugene Riehl and built by volunteer labor from mostly donated materials. Design challenges included the fierce winds and windsheer associated with its location. Even the road to access it was a major engineering and building challenge, requiring years of volunteer labor to complete.

On December 17, 1985, an Air National Guard CH-54 helicopter lifted the four sections to the top of the mountain where it was assembled.

Two hour tours are available during the summer.
