Steptoe Butte Test Round

I call this Steptoe Butte Test Round because we had a wet beginning to harvest and there is a combine that appears to be an IH 1470 in the foreground. That model is a full leveling machine and if I remember right, it will level on a hill of 52 degrees. The operator made one round and probably tested the moisture and decided to wait a day or two. He didn’t come out again that evening.

The picture shows several crops grown in the area. The foreground is wheat. The piece the combine is in looks like soft white winter wheat, and it flanks Dark Northern Spring wheat (DNS).

The black ground is summer fallow and was allowed to rest a year. It will soon be seeded to winter wheat.

Further back is something that has been windowed, perhaps lentils.
